'The Dark Presence' (English translation) is a documented malevolent supernatural and sentient force that exists deep below the surface of St Louis. The City of St. Louis was built upon a complex of natural caves which were once used for the lagering of beer by early German immigrant brewers. But some of the early brewers found the Dark Presence had been lurking, and drove them all to insanity.
Its victims have included all of the "royalty" of brewing familes in the region: the Lemp family, the Kuhn family, the Anheuser family, as well as early brewers St Vrain, Phillipson and Ezra English. All these brewers eventually went STARK RAVING MAD as the Dark Presence enveloped them, creeping unseen from the endless caverns below the city, where the brewers stored their casks and barrels, lurking in the shadows, whispering, murmuring, screaming into their minds, stalking their dreams and draining their health until death was the only comfort.
